Lauren Reid Selected For Prestigious Dairy Industry Program

Modesto, Calif. – June 3, 2009 – Lauren Reid of Fresno was selected for the Career Internship Program sponsored by the California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB). The
six-week summer program provides top California college students with the opportunity to work in California’s Dairy Industry and learn first-hand how dairy products move from the farm to the table. Reid was selected because of her superior academic record and desire to pursue a career in the California Dairy Industry.

“California’s milk production has doubled in the past twenty years and it’s important that we develop new leaders as our dairy industry continues to grow,” said Stan G. Andre, CEO of the CMAB. “Talented young adults like Lauren represent the future of our industry and this program provides them with an exceptional opportunity for a hands-on professional dairy experience.”

Reid, 21, is a junior at California State University, Fresno and will graduate in May 2010 with a B.S. in Dairy Science. Reid has been an active member of the CSU Fresno Dairy Club and the National Dairy Challenge Team, where she received a Gold Award at the regional level. In addition, she serves as a College of Agriculture Ambassador and Associated Student Body Treasurer. Reid is a 2008 graduate of the Dairy Cattle Science Study Abroad Program in Belize. Currently, she is employed by Fred Rau Dairy, Inc. in Fresno. Her future plans include attending graduate school and managing her family’s dairy farm.

California is the nation’s leading milk producer. It also produces more butter, ice cream, yogurt and nonfat dry milk than any other state. Dairy products made with Real California milk can be identified by the Real California Milk seal, which certifies that the products are made exclusively with milk produced on California dairy farms. The state is the second-largest producer of cheese, which is available nationally under the Real California Cheese seal.
